Quanto tempo hai a disposizione?

Ci stiamo lavorando.

Molto a breve.

Grazie a te.

English Version

Also this year we can have more information about our participation at Eurovision Song Contest 2013, by the Head of the Italian delegation, who found the time to answer some of our questions. We thank him sincerely for his helpfulness and courtesy.

Let’s start from Baku 2012. What differences compared to 2011 and, in general, how was the experience in Azerbaijan?

Baku 2012 was a very challenging from a logistical point of view: the country had no doubt invested incredible figures, but it is clear in Germany is much easier to find professional in loco for any eventuality or need an artist has.

How Gualazzi and Zilli dealt with the ESC? What differences have you found?

They are two extraordinary artists, very different both in music and in character, but looking a little what happened to my colleagues from other delegations, I have to tell you with great sincerity that many of them envied the professionalism of our artists, both in 2011 and in 2012: never a problem during the rehearsals, never a whim, always great work and professionalism. I honestly believe that, regardless of musical tastes, which can never put all agree, Italy was represented with great elegance.

The polls predicted Nina Zilli in top three or at least in the top five. However, we were in top 10 with a  song not “Eurovision style”. Are you satisfied with the result?

Ninth out of forty I do not seem a defeat. On the contrary.

Often the fans (fortunately not all) are very critical about the promotion that RAI reserves to ESC. Can you give us an idea of the commitment behind the competition and the difficulties encountered in this work?

Often fans of any events, artist, living it  rightly with a passion that sometimes is away from objectivity. ESC is not, given the audience, a priority project for RAI. It is a program that is lived and promotet as any other. Who works there is doing everything to make it grow but building a successful takes time and we do everything we can, day after day. You don’t realize that an extra promo for a show is a less promo to another and it is not always easy.

Specifically, what are the taskes of the Head of Delegation?

How much time do you have? Ha ha ha … (I’m kidding) is a very various job that become from collecting record material to the management of the relationship with the label, press, production in loco and in Italy… I would call it a “extreme” work of coordination.

Let’s talk about 2013. It seems in RAI mood is changing. The announcement of our participation has arrived earlier than two years and there is already the first promo. The Facebook page is always updated. What can you say about that?

As previously said  we do everything we can, and with time also we taugh a lesson from small mistakes made due the inexperience. You have to consider that when I started doing this job it was a leap into the unknown: there was no one in RAI, after 14 years, who was familiar with the entire procedure of the competition which, believe me, it is extremely complex and requires a exhausting preparation.

Are you already thinking about the promotion about ESC in RAI show and about the possible commentators of the show?

We’re working on.

Last year the audience was better than 2011 even with about two million viewers when Nina Zilli sang. Do we still have to worry about the share?

The share is always the thermometer of the appreciation of a transmission. As a public service should be linked with one or two points of share is a long-standing question that requires a long analysis and I would not trivialize in a few lines, it is certain that the economic investment that RAI does for ESC is considerable and share with double-digit we would help to win the scepticism.

The news of Marco Mengoni as Italian representative has been accepted, in general, more than favorably on foreign websites that deal with ESC. What reasons prompted you to choose him?

Every year we have to present something different: Marco had a nice project that will be published (I listened to his album and it is a high-quality album), he was unquestionably the preferred from the web, he is a TV personality (remember that ESC is a television show) very “Italian” but at the same time contemporary and, never forget, he has a voice that a large percentage of the artists taking the stage in Malmö dreams of! As I said before, it is impossible always please everyone, but it is certainly true that in Italy Mengoni really like: the warmth of the public in Sanremo and the sales speak for themselves!

Marco said it would be returned immediately to the studio to work on the project ESC, so it seems very motivated. What do you think is going to live this experience?

Relations with SONY and his staff are great and I am very happy.

When we know the tune Mengoni will sing in Malmö? Can you at least anticipate how many songs are eligible candidates and if there are the two songs of Sanremo?

Very soon.

Thank you for your commitment and willingness and wish you good luck!

Thank you.
